Grattan Catalogue

Established in 1912 in Bradford, England, by John Enrico Fattorini, Grattan is a well-loved and well-trusted clothing catalogue that features a range of household brands.

You’ll find big names like Samsung, Superdry, and Nintendo. It started out by selling its products in paper catalogues, competing with big names like Freemans, and then moved onto an online catalogue once the business made a name for itself.

Today, Grattan has 18 stores, two main catalogues, and a variety of speciality catalogues, selling both fashion and household items. Grattan also provides flexible credit through its Flexiway account, a “buy now, pay later” option that lets you spread the cost of your shopping.

What does Grattan sell?

Grattan’s products vary far and wide, with everything you could possibly want or need all in one place. It offers one-stop-shop convenience to help you limit the time spent on online shopping, jumping between different retailers.

With a range of popular brands to browse and over 65,000 products, you’ll find the latest fashion, kids’ toys, and electricals. This includes categories such as:

    • Women’s and men’s clothing: essentials, such as outerwear, lingerie, underwear, and shoes, from brands including Ann Summers, Burberry, Adidas, Regatta, and Boss.
    • Kids’ essentials: clothes, underwear, accessories, and shoes from a variety of brands, including Crocs and Disney.
    • Toys and games: ranging from board games and Barbies to arts and crafts, books, and electronic tablets.
    • Beauty products: including makeup, skincare, wellness and grooming products, fragrances, and haircare.
  • Home and garden: a huge selection of home goods and furniture, such as home décor, kitchen appliances, bedding, and even garden tools and outdoor furniture.
  • Electricals and tech: TVs, laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles, and kitchen appliances like washers, fridges, and vacuums.
  • Gifts: a dedicated section for gifting during christmas or birthdays, with a range of toys, games, jewellery, and home goods to browse.

Grattan vs Competitors’ Prices

Since Grattan sells brands with a variety of price ranges, the website really offers something for every budget. They carry a mix of well-known brands and unique items, and they emphasise affordability and value, which sets them apart from their competitors.

You’ll also find that they frequently run special offers, clearance sales, and promo codes to help you save money. In fact, if you open a Grattan credit account, you’ll often get a big discount on your first order (around 25%) as a new Flexiway customer.

While many of their products might be at a similar price range to their competitors, not all competitors offer the interest-free instalment plans or flexible credit terms that Grattan does. You can take advantage of sales without having to pay the full amount upfront, something many traditional retailers don’t always provide.

If that isn’t generous enough, they also offer account owners rewards, including additional deals throughout the year.

Credit limits on Grattan’s flexiway account

When you open a Grattan Flexiway credit account, you’ll be assigned an appropriate credit limit based on what you can comfortably borrow.

Even if you have a poor credit history, you may be given a starting credit limit of around £100 (give or take) once you open an account. This limit is the maximum amount you can owe on purchases at any one time.

You’ll usually be informed of your credit limit as soon as you’re approved and you start shopping. Grattan will review your account monthly to check how you’re managing the account. If you make payments on time and stay within your limit, your credit limit may be raised.

Using the account responsibly is also an opportunity to build up your credit score and sell yourself as a reliable shopper. Over several months, this can positively impact your credit rating (just make sure to borrow what you can afford).

Payment options

Thanks to the Flexiway credit account, Grattan offers a number of ways to pay for your purchases without stress.

One of the best things about Grattan’s flexiway payment plan is its 14-day free trial, which lets you determine whether it’s right for you before buying. When you open an account with them, you have two main ways to pay with credit:

  1. Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL): This option lets you delay payment for a purchase for several months until you can afford to pay. Many people use buy now, pay later when they need an item right away, and they can afford to pay it off later. However, this option comes with added interest once the deferred period ends. If you don’t pay on time, interest will be added to the final charge.
  2. Flexiway Account (Spread-the-Cost): This is the standard Grattan credit account option where you spread the cost of your shopping into monthly payments. With this, you’ll receive a statement each month, and you can choose to pay just the minimum amount or more, depending on your budget. The Flexiway account is also a form of regulated credit; the typical interest rate is 39.9% APR (variable) if you don’t pay off the balance within the interest-free period.

When you first open a Flexiway account, your first payment won’t be due for 5 weeks, giving you a nice welcome period. Once you’ve bought something on your Grattan account, you have a choice of payment methods:

    • Pay online: With your Grattan account, you can make a secure payment with your debit card.
    • Pay by app: Grattan has an app you can download to log in to your account and make purchases.
  • Pay by phone: You can call their 24/7 automated phone line and follow the instructions to make your payment.

Delivery

Grattan offers free standard delivery for most items on their website, with next-day delivery available for select items.

Typically, standard delivery takes 2-5 working days, from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and often between 10am and 5pm on Sundays.

The different delivery prices can be found below:

  • Standard delivery: £1.49
  • Next-day delivery: £5.99
  • Stated day delivery: £5.99
  • Larger or electrical item delivery: £15

More information on shipping and delivery can be found on their delivery FAQs page.

Returns

Returning items with Grattan is relatively straightforward. They have a 28-day policy that lets you return an item 28 days after it’s delivered.

This means that if you change your mind about a purchase or aren’t completely satisfied, you have around a month to return it and get your money back.

As long as the product is returned in the same condition it arrived in, e.g., unused, unworn (if it’s clothing), and ideally in its original packaging with any tags, the return will be accepted. The refund will be issued around 10 days after you’ve sent the item off.

The benefits of shopping with Grattan

Using Grattan’s catalogue and Flexiway account comes with a number of benefits that can really help shoppers. Especially so if you want a flexible way to pay or an easy way to improve your credit score.

  • Spread the cost of items: Instead of having to pay a large sum all at once, you’re able to pay in smaller, more manageable instalments.
  • Improve your credit score: Signing up for a Grattan flexiway account can help you improve your credit score if you use it responsibly. If you make your payments on time each month and stay within your credit limit, you’ll build a positive payment history. This will help you when applying for bigger forms of credit in the future (such as car finance or a mortgage).
  • Convenience: Having everything you need on one website, with multiple brands to choose from, means you don’t have to go back and forth between websites. It simplifies the shopping process, saving you time and effort.
  • No upfront payments: With buy now, pay later, you don’t have to pay for an item at all up-front, unless you have the means to do so. You can order multiple items, see which ones you like, return those you don’t, and only pay for what you keep.

Plus, shopping online takes the stress out of in-person shopping and everything that comes with it: crowds, queues, and petrol costs.

Does Gratten do credit checks?

Yes, Gratten typically runs a soft credit check to determine whether you’re eligible for the credit line with a flexiway account.

A soft credit check won’t have a negative impact on your credit score. For this, they’ll just need a few details from you, such as:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Employment status
  • Income

As long as you meet their basic criteria (e.g., you’re over 18, a UK resident, and have the means to make repayments), you have a good chance of opening an account.
